DECKING MATERIAL OPTIONS

PRESSURE TREATED WOOD

Due to the natural beauty of wood, many people tend to stick to the traditional wood paneled deck. Wood doesn’t need to be decorated or enhanced because it is already beautiful, vibrant and attractive. Pressure treated wood is often the most economical option available for outdoor decks. Some maintenance is required for wood decks, yearly pressure washing and a coat of stain every couple years is the norm.

COMPOSITE DECKING

Composite decking, commonly referred to as Trex Deck, is usually made from polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride.  This is essentially a recycled plastic with wood fibers built in. It's a low maintenance option for your outdoor space and will maintain its color for years without the work of painting, staining or sealing. With its protection from mildew, mold, and insects, you will never have to replace a board due to warping or rotting. Staining and pressure washing is also not required for this material.

PVC

Another option for a low maintenance option is PVC decking which is composed entirely of polyvinyl chloride and therefore contains no wood. This is a more expensive option, but it provides more fade and stain resistance compared to other products. PVC decking comes in a vast array of intricate colors and finishes, simulating the look of an exotic wooden deck.

Aluminum

While it’s not nearly as popular as the other options, aluminum is actually an ideal material for decking. It’s lighter and stronger than wood, composite, and vinyl, and resistant to mold, weather, and insects. It’s even recyclable—not that you have to worry about that, since an aluminum deck will last forever. All these qualities make aluminum the most expensive decking option of them all.

EXISTING DECK NEED REPAIR?

If you already have a deck or your have recently purchased a home with a deck, it is important to make sure the space is safe and solid before using it. Deck boards can shift and supports can begin to rot, posing a serious falling hazard. Railings can become loose or missing leaving large gaps, which also opens up liability to you, your family and guests.  Is your deck prone to splinters? Are your boards old and warped? Splinters on old decks can also be a problem, especially when children play on the deck.  We can eliminate these problems, restoring your deck to it's original beauty and provide a stable structure that you can rest assured is safe for your family. If you want to install a new deck, we take your plans and vision and turn it into a fully-functional space.

Questions?

How much does a deck cost?

The average price range of building a new deck can be anywhere between $8,000 and $20,000. Including materials and labor, a standard deck will cost roughly $40-$60 per square foot. That means, for a standard 14 x 20 foot pressure treated deck, you can expect to pay around $11,200 - 16,800.

Does adding a deck add value to the home?

To get the best return on your deck investment for your home, research recommends sticking with a 16 foot x 20 foot wood deck addition, though the right size for your home will depend on the size of your house and your yard. You’ll want to add a railing system as well for added function and stability.

What is the longest lasting deck material?

Aluminum decking is the most expensive out of the deck material and will last the longest with a lifespan of 30+ years.

How long do composite decks last?

Composite decking can last over 20 years with the proper care and maintenance. Composite holds up better under hot or cold weather shifts. Composite is resistant to rot, mold, and termites, which can take their toll on wood decking materials. Composite does not require as much upkeep as wood.
